Java Edition — 1.8.9

Recommended Setup

If you already play modern Minecraft, it is worth creating a dedicated 1.8.9 installation in the launcher instead of changing your main profile every time. That way you can keep a clean setup for Vanilla Anarchy Survival and come back to it whenever you want.

1

Open the Minecraft Launcher and go to Installations. If you do not already have a 1.8.9 profile, create one and set the version to release 1.8.9.

2

Launch that installation once so the client fully downloads, then from the main menu click Multiplayer.

3

Click Add Server. You can name it whatever you want, then enter the server address below:

play.VanillaAnarchySurvival.com
4

Click Done, select the server entry, and press Join Server. If everything is set correctly, you should connect right away.

5

If you see an Outdated Client or Incompatible Version message, go back to the launcher and make sure you are actually running 1.8.9, not a nearby version like 1.8.8 or 1.12.2.

6

Once you are in, expect a stripped-back survival experience. There are no special client requirements, and the intended standard is still a normal 1.8.9 client.

What to Expect

First Login Notes

Vanilla Anarchy Survival is intentionally minimal. If you are coming from modern servers with lots of helpers, menus, and convenience commands, the experience here will feel more direct. The world is open and anarchic, but the client expectation stays plain and vanilla.

1

The server runs a 1.8.9 survival experience with Beta-inspired terrain and atmosphere.

2

There are no teleport commands, land claims, or starter advantages. Travel, risk, and survival are meant to matter.

3

PvP, raiding, griefing, betrayal, and base hunting are all part of the world. If you build something valuable, assume other players may eventually find it.

4

If you want a deeper overview before logging in, check the FAQ and Server Policies pages.

Troubleshooting

You must use Minecraft Java Edition 1.8.9. Other versions, even nearby ones like 1.8.8 or 1.12.2, can show incompatibility errors or fail to join.

Your launcher installation is on the wrong version. Go back to the Minecraft Launcher, select or create a clean 1.8.9 installation, then fully relaunch the game before trying again.

Paper 1.8.8 is the server software, while Minecraft Java Edition 1.8.9 is the recommended client version for players. That pairing works because 1.8.8 and 1.8.9 both use protocol version 47, so a normal 1.8.9 client can connect to a Paper 1.8.8 server without issue. We recommend 1.8.9 because it is the final 1.8 client patch, keeping the same old combat and overall feel while adding some extra bug-fix polish over earlier 1.8 builds.

Make sure the address is exactly play.VanillaAnarchySurvival.com with no extra spaces or outdated saved data. If needed, delete the old server entry and add it again from scratch.

Check the Status page before assuming the server is down for good. If it still will not connect, restart the launcher completely and try again with your 1.8.9 profile selected.
